Statement

For 2020 Iā€™m working with the theme of humans and their relation with the natural world. These paintings feature various human or humanoid figures, animals and plants in an interior with a view through a window to some sort of disaster outside. Motifs from Native Americans, art history, mythology and psychology are freely borrowed from. It is my belief that mankind needs to examine its psyche more closely on a popular level and come back into accord with nature. Aesthetic arrest is more of a goal than to be preaching at people. Individual animal portraits will also be explored in order to feature the acceleration of extinction.

In 2019 I was experimenting with bio-morphic forms using the old master technique of grisaille and glazing. There was also a continuation of realist depictions of explosions and their contrast of colors, light and dark, and churning forms.

Pre 2019 my focus was doing portraits from mugshots, paintings of internet memes, and plein air painting. These subjects continue to the present but have become secondary to painting larger scenes stated above in the 2020 section.
